Ring-opening polymerization of strained metallocenophanes: a new route to high molecular weight poly(metallocenes)*

Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of strained ring-tilted metallocenophanes can be achieved thermally, via anionic initiation, or by the use of transition metal catalysts and provides access to a wide range of high molecular weight (Mw ˆ 10 ±10, Mn> 10 ) poly(metallocenes). These materials possess a variety of interesting properties and many are very easy to prepare. This article provides an ov...

Synthesis of Block Copolymers of Varying Architecture Through Suppression of Transesterification during Coordinated Anionic Ring Opening Polymerization

Well-defined di- and triblock copolymers consisting of ε-caprolactone (CL), L-lactide (LA), and trimethylene carbonate (TMC) were synthesized via "PLA first route" in coordinated anionic ring opening polymerization/copolymerization (CAROP) with tin (II) octoate as catalyst. The desired block structure was preserved by use of protective additive α-methylstyrene by preventing the transesterificat...

Metal-free activation in the anionic ring-opening polymerization of cyclopropane derivatives.

The successful activation observed when using Bu(t) P(4) phosphazene base and thiophenol or bisthiols for the anionic ring opening polymerization (ROP) of di-n-propyl cyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylate is described. Well-defined monofunctional or difunctional polymers with a very narrow molecular weight distribution were obtained through a living process. Quantitative end-capping of the propagating...

Reversible-deactivation anionic alternating ring-opening copolymerization of epoxides and cyclic anhydrides: access to orthogonally functionalizable multiblock aliphatic polyesters† †Electronic supplementary information (ESI) available: Synthetic, polymerization, and functionalization procedures, and characterization data. See DOI: 10.1039/c7sc03643d

The alternating copolymerization of epoxides and cyclic anhydrides is an increasingly popular route to aliphatic polyesters that are of interest as biodegradable replacements for petroleum-based polymers and for use in the biomedical field. However, broad and bimodal molecular weight distributions in these polymerizations continues to be an issue, limiting synthesis of multiblock copolymers. By...

Highly Selective Molybdenum ONO Pincer Complex Initiates the Living Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization of Strained Alkynes with Exceptionally Low Polydispersity Indices

The pseudo-octahedral molybdenum benzylidyne complex [TolC≡Mo(ONO)(OR)]·KOR (R = CCH3(CF3)2) 1, featuring a stabilizing ONO pincer ligand, initiates the controlled living polymerization of strained dibenzocyclooctynes at T > 60 °C to give high molecular weight polymers with exceptionally low polydispersities (PDI ∼ 1.02). Kinetic analyses reveal that the growing polymer chain attached to the pr...
